Comprising: a ring collet-set with a sugarloaf cabochon sapphire, size 54, French maker’s mark, partial assay mark, inscribed Rila July 1896, case stamped Moritz Hübner; and a ring collet set with a cushion-shaped ruby, sapphire and emerald, accented by single-cut diamonds, size 571/2.

Princess Eudoxia of Bulgaria (1898-1985)

Princess Marie Louise of Bourbon-Parma, Princess Consort of Bulgaria (1870-1899) gifted the sapphire ring to General P. Markoff at the Rila Monastery, one of the most ancient and important Bulgarian religious sites, on the occasion of St Elias Day on 20 July 1896. General Markoff gave the ring to her son Boris III, Tsar of Bulgaria (1894-1943) as a wedding present on 25 October 1930. Tsar Boris in turn gave it to his sister Princess Eudoxia of Bulgaria in 1940.
