A Marble Funerary Stele inscribed for Demea and Time

circa 1st Century B.C./1st Century A.D.


carved in relief, crowned with a pediment adorned with a rosette in the center and with palmette acroteria, the recessed panel with the figure of a woman pouring an offering at an altar and holding a circular object to her chest, and wearing a chiton and himation, two lines of Greek inscription below to the effect that the sacrifice was offered on behalf of the two deceased, Demea and Time (ΔΗΜΕΑΣ ΧΑΡΗΤΑ / ΤΕΙΜΗΣ ΕΝΕΚΑ), a wide tenon at the bottom.
