rectangular with rounded corners, the lid applied with an oval enamel plaque painted with a couple before Gripsholm castle in Mariefred, Sweden, against a dawn-tinted sky, signed to lower left: ‘B pix’, within dark blue enamel frame, on a sable ground decorated with chased scrolls and flowers, dark blue frame and chased border, the side panels decorated with an unusual geometric engine-turned pattern centred with a plumy scrollwork ornament repeated as a chased version in high relied on the corners, the underside equally elaborately decorated in three colours of gold around a shaped engine-turned centre, rubbed maker’s mark, Hanau town mark, Colins shield mark
