A Louis XV gilt-bronze mantel clock, Festeau, Paris, circa 1750


6½-inch enamel dial signed Festeau A Paris, the movement with anchor escapement, star-cut outside count wheel striking on a bell, signed on the backplate as the dial, the drum surmounted by a child in Indian dress and with a bow and quiver of arrows, seated on a rustic roof, supported and flanked by two chinoiserie figures on naturistically cast rocaille base with balustrades and rockwork

60cm. 23¾in. high; 52cm. 20½in. wide

An almost identical example of this clock is illustrated and described in Pierre Kjellberg, Encyclopédie de La Pendule Française, Paris 1997, p.123(C) where it is stated that further examples have been recorded in various collections, one of which is signed by the bronzier Saint-Germain and another with a movement signed Festeau.
