The Parc St. James, located in Neuilly-sur-Seine, was designed in the late 1770s by the celebrated Neoclassical architect Francois-Joseph Bélanger, for the Treasurer General of the Navy, Claude Baudard de Saint-James. These two drawings, previously considered as the work of Fragonard, can instead be convincingly given to his follower, Jean Baptiste Maréchal, an artist who specialised in landscape drawings of the gardens and architectural monuments in and around Paris.
