Preceded by the reference 5070 and 5170, the current reference has its roots planted firmly in Patek Philippe’s impressive family of chronographs, but bringing along refreshing changes that seemed decidedly sportier. While it still maintained the layout of the double sub dials and the peripheral scale, the 5172 most notably introduced the more modern Arabic numerals and syringe hands. Yet, with its stepped lugs and rounded crown, the 5172 still feels grounded in its vintage roots. Boasting a case diameter of 41mm in white gold, the watch has a pleasant presence on the wrist.
