The present example of the reference 5089 was introduced in 2014 to celebrate Patek Philippe's 175th anniversary. Part of the "Rare Handcrafts" series, its dial was inspired by a vintage postcard which showcases the scenic view of Lake Geneva with traditional barques. The dial is wood marquetry, an intrinsic technique which features various species of wood cut to shape and assembled painstakingly on a solid gold plate, depicting the Lake Geneva scene. Its hinged case back is engraved "175 Anniversaire 1839-2014" and can be opened easily to reveal the movement. As a commemorative icon, the present watch holds historic significance as a remarkable creation from the prestigious manufacturer.
