Description
AN IRISH GEORGE II MAHOGANY SIDE TABLE, CIRCA 1760
with a moulded rectangular top, the frieze centred with a scallop shell flanked by foliate scrolls, on shell carved cabriole legs with claw feet
81cm. high, 154cm. wide, 60.5cm. deep; 2ft.7¾in., 5ft.½in. 1ft.11¾in.
The form of this table with an elegantly serpentine shaped frieze and gadrooned scrolls flanking a shell is a decorative feature appearing on a number of Irish tables of this period. A similarly conceived table, possibly from Clanwilliam House, 86 St. Stephen's Green, Dublin, is illustrated by the Knight of Glin and James Peill, Irish Furniture, Yale, 2007, p. 230, fig. 101.
