The artist.
OTO is a digital artist based in Japan, known for creating a diverse range of styles from minimalistic graphic arts, as seen in his Ordinal MIMI Series, to innovative generative artworks. His Monoliths Series has gained recognition as a profound use of Bitcoin blockchain and Ordinals technology.
Since 2023, OTO has specialized in creating art using the Bitcoin blockchain, deeply attracted to the technology and philosophy of Ordinals. His works often include interactive elements, allowing observers to directly participate and influence the artwork, thereby adding a new dimension to visual arts.
OTO's art is underpinned by extensive experience in graphic design and a deep understanding of visual design, exploring new possibilities of digital art at the intersection of technology and artistry. His creations offer more than just visual appeal; they provide a profound experience where technology and creativity converge, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.
Monolith is inspired by the question: Is Bitcoin art an immutable artifact?
Designed to be inscribed on past satoshis (sats) and completed in the future, each piece in this collection undergoes a transformation. The background art, inspired by quantum space, is programmed to deteriorate with each block, while the monolith, a dynamic animation, evolves into increasingly minimalistic patterns. It is nearly impossible to visually discern the changes with each block as they are designed to gradually fade and ultimately disappear, aligning with the anticipated end of Bitcoin issuance around block ID 7140000, approximately 120 years from now.
This art consists of one parent inscription and 333 child inscriptions, each with on-chain parent-child provenance. The collection of these 333 child inscriptions has been previously released under the name Monoliths by OTO.
This parent inscription is part of a collection called 1/1 Origin, distinct from the collection of 333 child inscriptions.
The subject of this auction is the one parent inscription. All child inscriptions recursively reference the parent and are generated using their own inscription IDs as seeds, essentially making the parent inscription the DNA for all pieces.
Additional Notes about the work:
Block 9 450x:
The historically significant Block 9 450x, which starts with the number 450 and was mined by Satoshi Nakamoto himself at the very beginning, serves as the canvas for the art.
Sat Numbers:
The parent inscription has the sat number 45095752000, and the child inscriptions range from 45095752001 to 45095752333, with the last three digits being sequential.
Recursive Endpoints:
The parent inscription is recursively invoked by each child.
Using Inscription ID as a Seed:
The inscription ID is obtained and used to create a seed value for the art. Children are drawn through the parent inscription.
Interactive Generative Art:
Using the mouse wheel allows for zooming in and out of the monolith, enabling viewing and copying at the preferred size. Furthermore, the monolith can be completely hidden to enjoy just the background art. Entering a secret key can also hide the background art, which I hope you will discover.
Evolves with Block Generation:
Designed to deteriorate and evolve with each block generation, the monolith gradually becomes more minimal, the background art fades, and eventually disappears.
