Reference 5059 features what is known as the “Officer’s case”, an interesting design exhibiting a hinged case back with elongated lugs. This case design traces back to World War I, when a pocket watch was converted to a wristwatch by welding the lugs to the sides and fixed with a strap, becoming what is known to be a “Trench watch”, which increased practicality during combat. The reference 5059 inherits this design and incorporates a perpetual calendar as well as retrograde date, successfully bringing an exquisite approach to a historical concept.
