Consigned by a private collector and fresh to the market, the present reference 16516 is one of the most exclusive and attractive examples of a Cosmograph Daytona powered by Zenith movement caliber.
Manufactured by Rolex in 1999, this is the only known platinum Daytona with lapis lazuli hardstone dial. It is also important to note that this watch has the same reference number 16516 and A serial number, which is consistent with the only other known platinum Daytona sold by Sotheby's in 2018 for USD 871,000.
There are many interesting attributes about this watch that make it highly unusual. First and foremost, the dial is made of lapis lazuli hardstone and the case is crafted from platinum, the world's most noble metal. The watch is inscribed on the case back and dated XII 1998. Sotheby's is absolutely thrilled to present this exceptionally rare and highly important Rolex Daytona with Zenith movement for the first time to the market.
