Description
[Apollo 13]
Launchpad
Large chromogenic print, 20 x 16 inches. SIGNED by Apollo 13 Commander JIM LOVELL in black ink: "Jim Lovell / Apollo 13 CDR;" SIGNED by Apollo 13 Lunar Module Pilot FRED HAISE in black ink: "Fred Haise / Apollo 13 LMP;" SIGNED AND INSCRIBED by Apollo 13 EECOM Sy Liebergot: "'I'm thinking of / having an extra / cryo stir' / Sy Liebergot / Apollo 13 EECOM."
Before the trouble that would ensue, this print shows Apollo 13 sitting peacefully on the launchpad at sunset, just after the pullback of the Mobile Service Structure (MSS) on April 10, 1970. The mission that would ensue, along with the travails the crew would endure following a faulty "cryo stir," are now considered a "successful failure," and have been immortalized in countless books, television programs, and films.
