[SHUTTLE COLUMBIA (STS-32)]

THE LAUNCH OF STS-32. 9 JANUARY 1990.

Vintage NASA chromogenic color photograph, 10 by 8 inches, “This Paper Manufactured by Kodak” watermark, press captions printed in purple to verso, NASA image ID “KSC-90PC-30”; minor toning.

STS-32 was the 33rd mission of NASA's Space Shuttle program, and the ninth launch of Columbia. The dramatic liftoff captured in this photograph marked the first use of Launch Pad A at Kennedy Space Center's Complex 39 since 1986. At the time, STS-32 was the longest shuttle mission, with a duration of nearly 11 days. Aboard were Commander Daniel Brandenstein, Pilot James Wetherbee, and Mission Specialists Bonnie Dunbar, Marsha Ivins, and David Low.
