Freddie Mercury's publicity-worn blue and grey velvet jacket and vest;
with a pair of flared trousers,
worn 1975-76
a collarless jacket, open at the front with tie fastening at the waist, the body of navy blue chiffon with silver voided velvet in foliate pattern, gathered at the shoulders and cuff, silver velvet sleeves, lined in ivory satin, labelled ‘ESSENCES, 135 Kings Road, Chelsea’, with a pair of grey velvet flared trousers, with two button fastening at waist and slit pockets just below the waistband, cream satin interior lining at waistband, unlabelled; and a blue cotton vest with white trim, and faded white lettering on front ‘SOUTHSIDE SUPERSTARS’ and lettering on the back ‘WAMPLER 3’, vest labelled ‘Athletic Wear by Mason – Made in U.S.A.’

Freddie is photographed wearing this jacket and vest for a photo session for Music Life magazine at Hotel Pacific, Tokyo, 21 March, 1976 and on numerous other occasions. Freddie also wore the vest included here with a gold and red Japanese brocade jacket (lot 1133).
