Across vintage Rolex-collecting, there are levels of rarity. Sitting within the upper echelon, considered the holy grail for many collectors, is the 'Panda' Paul Newman Daytona. Its illustrious history and connection with such a celebrated individual are just a few reasons why it has been so revered since the 1980s. Finding this reference in good condition is extremely difficult in today’s complex and exponentially growing Rolex Vintage market.
The rebooted ‘exotic’ dial introduced in the mid 1960's, saw a distinct triple-coloured face with a ‘step’, and sub-dials featuring Art-Deco numerals and square indexes. This would later be known as the ‘Paul Newman’ dial.
Consigned by the family of the original owner the present Paul Newman Panda is fitted with a very clean bi-colour mk1 dial, showing a crisp print and little to no evidence of water damage or discoloration. The watch is in a good case condition with some signs of polishing, but in honest and very charismatic condition. The lume plots are nicely formed and have aged to a mixture of creams and darker tones.
Today, the Panda Paul Newman, reference 6263 is one of the most sought after vintage Rolex watches and this watch is a wonderful fresh to market example.
