large silver bromide print (235 x 290mm.), SIGNED BY THE SULTAN in Arabic on the image, "Lenare" signature in lower right margin (hidden by mount), studio ink stamp on the reverse, mounted, framed and glazed, short tear and wear at top edge, some surface wear, slight silver mirroring
A rare photograph of Sayyid Khalifa II (1879-1960), 9th sultan of Zanzibar (1911-1960), taken in London by society photographer Leonard Green ("Lenare") during his state visit to England in 1929.
