We are grateful to Dr Fred G. Meijer for endorsing the attribution of this painting to Paul Theodor van Brussel on the basis of digital images. Meijer has also pointed out that he believes this painting to be the prime version of this particular composition. Another version painted on panel, also signed and dated 1789, was sold in these Rooms in July 2018.1
