Only in production from 1965 to 1969, the Rolex reference 6241 was made in a very limited quantity of approximately 2,700 pieces. Rolex fitted a very limited number of them fitted with an exotic dial. This feature later became known as the 'Paul Newman' dial, and is characterized by the square markers in the chronograph scale and subsidiary dials, as well as the alternating patterning of the coloration. To the best of our knowledge, the majority of reference 6241s were made in stainless steel cases, whereas 400 pieces were made in 14k yellow gold, and 300 pieces were made in 18k yellow gold.
Furthermore, the present example is presented in excellent condition, with the lume plots all aged consistently and uniform in size. The dial is blemish free, with the slanted “T Swiss T” designation at 6 o’clock clear and visible (particular to references 6239 and 6241). The numbers between the lugs are very crisp and easy to read making this Paul Newman reference 6241 a very appealing and original example.
