A SMALL ILLUMINATED QUR’AN, COPIED BY FAWZI (?) IBN MUHAMMAD HASHIM MAHMUD AL-MUSAWI, PERSIA, QAJAR, DATED 1277 AH/1860-61 AD
Arabic manuscript on paper, 306 leaves plus 4 fly-leaves, 19 lines to the page, written in naskh in black ink, ruled in blue and gold, verses separated by gold and polychrome romboids, surah headings in red riqa’ against a gold ground within cartouches, nisf, juz and sajdahs markers in the margins, f.1b and f.2a with a double-page spread of illumination consisting of a central lobed panel with naskh against a blue and gold ground, f.2b and f.4a with a double page of illumination, f.3 with a prayer written in nasta’liq within a tree-shaped cartouche, in lacquer binding decorated with flowers
