Potted with a waisted body and flaring at the rim, the current cup exudes a sense of elegance in its seemingly simple form. It is incised with a mark below the handle, which sets this cup apart from its comparable examples as such marks are very rare and believed to be clan or individual marks.
See also a similar but smaller cup (h. 10.7 cm), also from the collection of Ronald W. Longsdorf, but lacking an incised mark, illustrated in Ronald W. Longsdorf, The Pottery Age: An Appreciation of Neolithic Ceramics from China, Circa 7000 BC - Circa 1000 BC, Hong Kong, 2020, pl. 54.
