The elaborate form of the well-proportioned pottery goblet is an exceptionally rare Neolithic example in a culture where function was prioritised over form. Superbly potted with a trumpet neck resting on a compressed globular centre and splayed foot, set on one side with a loop handle, it appears that the conception and execution of the goblet stretched beyond the mere utilitarian function of the vessel. Compare also a Dawenkou white pottery goblet with a similar form, but potted with a very tall trumpet neck, illustrated in Simon Kwan, Chinese Neolithic Pottery, Hong Kong, 2005, no. 66
