Description
Vincenzo Bellini
Autograph letter signed ("Bellini"), to the tenor Adolphe Nourrit, ABOUT A PERFORMANCE OF WILLIAM TELL
asking him to favour him with a ticket when he sings at the Académie Royale de Musique [i.e. the Paris Opéra], excepting the evenings when they are performing the operas of Rossini, who is kind enough to supply him with tickets himself, thanking him for the pleasure his performance of the divine Tell gave him yesterday, noting that he was unsurpassable in the duo with Cinti and in the trio, adding that he hopes some day to hear him make his own feeble compositions sound seductive once more
...spero un giorno sentire dalla v[ost]ra bocca render ancor seducenti le mie deboli composizione!...
2 pages, 12mo (11.1 x 9.2cm), with an autograph envelope addressed to Nourrit, [Paris,] Hôtel des Lillois, 63 rue Richelieu, [c.1833?], horizontal fold
An exquisite little letter providing an eyewitness account (Bellini's) of a performance of Rossini's last opera, William Tell, first performed at the Paris Opéra (Salle Le Peletier) on 3 August 1829.
The address used by Bellini in this letter, the Hôtel des Lillois, at 63 rue Richelieu, was where Bellini stayed when he first arrived in Paris in 1833, before settling somewhere permanent in early 1834.
