Dangyangyu ware has long been appreciated among Song ceramic collectors and aficionados for its superb quality and fluid carving that rivals some of the best pieces produced in the nearby Ding and Cizhou kilns. See a related uncarved lobed dish reconstructed from sherds, attributed to the Dangyangyu kiln site, also of ogee form and similarly applied with persimmon glaze on the exterior and white glaze on the interior, illustrated in Dangyangyu Kiln of China, Beijing, 2011, pl. 33. Compare also a similar uncarved Dingyao example in the collection of Hebei Dingzhou Museum, published in Ding Kiln of China, Beijing, 2012, pl. 182.
