Troisième Quatuor pour 2 Violons, Alte & Violoncelle des Quatuors...Oeuvre 130 [score], Vienna: chez Math.s Artaria, [1827]

FIRST EDITION OF THE FULL SCORE OF THE STRING QUARTET IN B FLAT, OP.130, 67 pages, folio (34 x 26cm), engraved throughout, plate number 870, second title, a few pencil annotations to title, modern wrappers, a few small stains and tears to title, some very light scattered spotting

RARE. We have traced only one copy of the first edition of this full score at auction during the last thirty years.

Both score and parts of Beethoven's Op.130, one of the greatest works of the human imagination, were published by Artaria in May 1827, two months after the composer's death; the parts were also published simultaneously by Schlesinger in Paris. The original last movement of the quartet, the "Grosse Fuge" (Op.133), was published separately at the same time by Artaria (score and parts) and Schlesinger (parts).
