“My inspiration comes from the streets and from the fact that children are writing their stories on the walls.” — Aboudia

The Red Dog, a vibrant large-scale painting, features Aboudia's famous style which infuses elements from graffiti art and traditional African carvings, an approach which often calls comparisons to the style of late artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Through the frenetic depiction of bright blue characters and a red dog on a textured multi-media background, the artist creates a work which both represents the socio-political context of his home country as well as the theme of childhood, an ongoing and signature inspiration of his. He uses colors, which he says appears while creating his work, to transform the world and create deeply personal artworks.

Aboudia (Aboudia Abdoulaye Diarrassouba) is a Côte d'Ivoire-born Contemporary artist. In the early months of 2011, when his hometown was in the grips of civil conflict following the country’s contested presidential election, most civilians in Abidjan steered clear of the city’s streets but Aboudia made the streets of his hometown both his subject and studio. To this day, the artist is still driven to paint the people and landscapes of his home country.
