Rebecca Morris’ paintings interrogate materials, forms, processes, and outcomes. Working both on paper and on ambitious large-scale canvases, Morris produces patchworks of diverse mark-making, ranging from color field-like staining techniques to heavy impasto work. Her approach to abstraction feels at once highly personal and lively, and mysterious and unknowable, speaking to traditions and experimentation in equal measure.
Exhibitions of Morris’ work have been held at Bortolami, New York; Corbett vs. Dempsey, Chicago; and the Blaffer Art Museum, Houston among many others. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
