of quatrefoil shape, the lid and base set with a panel of nougat-coloured agate, the lid overlaid with chased gold openwork decorated with a cherub playing the trumpet, flanked by two lion masks, crowned by a pagoda, within elaborately chased borders of birds, rabbits and snails on a sablé ground within strapwork, repeated along the sides, slightly raised thumbpiece, apparently unmarked apart from later French hibou control mark
