Description
A LARGE THEODORE DECK IZNIK-STYLE POTTERY DISH, FRANCE, 19TH CENTURY
painted in an underglaze cobalt blue ground, green, manganese, turquoise and black outlines, design featuring a central rosette with Chinoiserie motif, rosette, hyacinth and tulip stems, floral details on rim, underside of foot impressed 'TH DECK' in red, with two drill holes
41.5cm. diam.
This dish is modelled after an exceptional Iznik dish now in Musée du Louvre (inv. no.6643), dated 1550-55 (see Atasoy & Raby 1989, fig.363, p.206). Another example was sold in these rooms, 10 June 2020, lot 224.
