The special edition reference 5531R World timer and Minute repeater with cloisonné enamel dial was first launched during the Patek Philippe Watch Art Grand Exhibition taking place in New York in 2017.
For the first time, the World time function was coupled with the chiming mechanism. Equipped with the new calibre R 27 HU, this mechanism features fundamental changes.
Consequently, it allows the watch to strike local time. Prior to this reference, minute repeaters with the world time complication were only able to chime home time because the two complications operated independently from one another. In total, 10 models were crafted with a cloisonné enamel dial that will come in two versions: "New York By Day" in daylight colours, and "New York By Night" showing a nocturnal landscape. There were five made of each version, and they were only available in the U.S.
In 2018, during Basel world, Patek Philippe announce the new Ref. 5531R World Time Minute Repeater with a cloisonné enamel but this version was depicting in the center, a boat on the lake in the Lavaux wine growing region of Geneva. Enamel dials are part of the Patek Philippe world time tradition.
The case band is fully decorated with a hand guilloché hobnail motif and open worked lugs.
This version was to be part of the current collection. The present model is fresh-to-market and is accompanied by its full set of accessories.
