Description

Jefferson 100 Proof 1913

Distilled in 1913, bottled in 1917, ullage: mid shoulder, tax strip over driven cork, front label very slightly creased and peeling, back label soiled

This is a true pre-Prohibition relic – distilled in 1913 and bottled in 1917, by a distillery that ceased to exist when the national ban on alcohol production took hold in 1920. The distillery in question was R. P. Pepper, sometimes known as Allen-Bradley, sometimes as Elk Run, and it was part of an expansive complex of distilleries and warehouses in eastern Louisville. Jefferson, named for the county in which Louisville sits, counted among R.P. Pepper’s leading labels, though it too disappeared with Prohibition; it has no relationship with Jefferson’s, a modern label named after Thomas Jefferson.
