2 vols., 12mo (198 x 120 mm). Title to to each volume, 16 plates by George Cruikshank, with those slated as frontispieces bound facing relevant pages; a few stray spots. Original publisher's dark olive-green embossed leaf-patterned cloth, spines gilt with decorative shield enclosing lettering, yellow endpapers. Housed in custom clamshell case.

"It is an irrefutable fact that the book first published by an author who subsequently attained great eminence is the most difficult of acquirement in good condition. This is acutely true of Dickens' first book" (Eckel, p.11).
