In 1982, Steven Spielberg’s film ET became an instant classic. The movie tells the story of a friendship between a 10-year-old boy, Elliot, and an alien left behind on Earth. For nearly a decade, the film held a record of the highest-grossing film of all time until Spielberg's Jurassic Park was released.
One of the most iconic scenes from the movie features Elliot and ET riding off into the sky on a shiny red Kuwahara Bike. Speilberg reportedly sourced the bike from Japan just for the movie.
In 2008, Nike released the Nike SB Dunk Low Pro 'Kuwahara’ in commemoration of the movie and the famous red bike. Dressed in a gradient red-to-white patent leather upper, the pair also featured unique details such as a graphic of the bike’s basket stitched onto the heel.
Exceptionally rare, this sample of the ‘Kuwahara’ Dunk features unique differences compared to the general release. Most notably, the pair has a slightly different gradient pattern on the upper and a graphic reminiscent of E.T.’s head on the tongue with Nike branding.
