Constance Rea (fl.1891-1935) and her husband Cecil were painters in the early twentieth century, and also happened to be the first residents of Garden Lodge almost eighty years before Freddie would come to occupy the house. Both were members of the association known as the Society of 25 Artists, and their design for Garden Lodge deliberately included a large north-facing studio in which they could both work. This space was to become the principal room in Freddie's home and where he had a large balcony created. It was also where his grand piano was placed.
