The Smiths
Meat Is Murder. Rough Trade, 1985
LP in original photographic record sleeve (catalogue number ROUGH 81), “The Smiths” printed in green, signed by Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, and Mike Joyce, with the original inner sleeve reproducing the front cover and featuring the lyrics; light creases, minor browning and abrasion to the rear cover, signatures a little faded.
A signed copy of The Smiths’ chart-topping record. In Meat Is Murder, their second album, the band moved from more personal subject matter to ardently political themes: from Morrissey’s pro-vegetarianism lyrics in the title track (he famously forbade the other bandmates from being photographed while eating meat), to direct criticisms of corporal punishment in “The Headmaster Ritual” and “Barbarism Begins at Home,” and more. The album was an international success and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart.
