Description
Bob Dylan
Blonde on Blonde. Columbia Records, [ca. 1968-1972]
Gatefold record sleeve (catalogue number C2S 841) signed by Dylan on the cover's photographic portrait, with the seven-photo layout and the title for track B2 as "Memphis Blues Again" on the inside gatefold; minor chips and shelfwear along the edges. [With:] A signed letter of authenticity from James Spence Authentication.
A signed copy of perhaps the most iconic Dylan record sleeve. With Blonde on Blonde, Dylan completed the trilogy of albums that make up his most innovative and fecund period, barely longer than a year. Often considered to be his greatest achievement, Dylan once commented of the album, "The closest I ever got to the sound I hear in my mind was on individual bands in the Blonde on Blonde album. It's that thin, that wild mercury sound. It's metallic and bright gold, with whatever that conjures up." With the two LPs housed in a gatefold sleeve with a now-archetypal portrait on the cover, the record was one of the first double albums in rock music.
The present issue is the variant that accompanied represses beginning in 1968, featuring seven photographs on the inside sleeve, rather than nine: it lacks the portrait of Claudia Cardinale and the photograph of a woman whispering in Dylan's ear.
