Description

[ZZ Top]

Billy Gibbons’ owned and stage-used Gibson SG “Lil Red” with custom pin-striping, modified to single volume knob and with sideways vibrola (cover removed).

Signed by BF Gibbons on back of headstock under serial number (2000s production). Original case with COA signed by Gibbons, attesting its use from 2015.

While Gibbons has long been identified with the legendary “Pearly Gates” 1959 Les Paul, he is renowned as a gear head without peer and the present is a take on his original 61 pre-SG Les Paul, with hotrod artist Von Dutch custom striping, that he chased down after seeing it around Houston in the 1960’s. Gibbons eventually bought it and played it extensively before moving it along. He eventually got hold of the latest owner so that Gibson could recreate one that got away. The present is essentially a Gibson USA 1961 reissue, modded to his specs (including putting all the tones through the Seymour Duncan bridge pickup, making the vibrola nonfunctional and stringing very light…) He plays a “Lil Red” on the 2014 Live from Daryl’s House.

Have Mercy!
