2 volumes, large 8vo (207 x 172 mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait, with 58 extra-illustrated plates; in unimpeachable condition. Dark green morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe ornately paneled gilt with Franklin’s monogram in the corners, red morocco doublures, elaborate gilt dentelles, dark green moiré guards, top edges gilt. Green cloth folding-case.
One of 100 copies of the deluxe issue of this important edition of Franklin’s autobiography, based on the complete manuscript discovered by John Bigelow in Paris in 1866. This copy was once owned by John Gilbert Winant (1898–1947), United States Ambassador to England.
