FIRST EDITION, copy number 19 for the Vicomte de Jonage, from a total edition of 77, folio (415 x 304mm.), 45 colour-printed wood-engraved plates by Schmied after paintings by Jean Goulden, each numbered 19/70 and signed in pencil by Schmied and Goulden, illuminated half-title with stencilled polychrome decoration, crushed duck-egg morocco binding by Luigi Castiglioni and Umberto Giovannini dated September 2012, upper cover with a large pictorial panel of a rural scene composed of coloured morocco onlays (in the style of Schmied's illustrations), suede flyleaves, top edge gilt and gauffered, others uncut, in matching duck-egg morocco folding box
A FINE BINDING. The illustrations are after paintings by Jean Goulden, a major in the Eastern Army Corps, who married Schmied's daughter Dolly. There are nineteen views of Salonika, seven views of the Macedonian Valley, and nineteen views of Mount Athos.
