Faust [Translated by Gérard de Nerval]. Paris: Charles Henchoz, 1938
4to (348 x 242mm.), copy number I from a limited edition of 106 copies, ONE OF SIX COPIES produced for collaborators, signed by the artist beneath the limitation, pochoir decoration and illustration by Schmied, two additional suites of plates (66 printed in black, and 66 in colour), each in a printed wrapper, the whole loose as issued in original embossed wrappers, burgundy buckram folder and slipcase, printed paper label on spine of folder, pages 101-104 neatly taped along gutter
This publication is generally considered Schmied's most ambitious undertaking, causing him financial problems which delayed it for several years. He exhibited some of the designs at the Galerie Petit in Paris, and eventually Henchoz agreed to finance the publication.
