The thangka depicts the six-armed ferocious Mahakala trampling a ganapati, with red Jinamitra below left, Kshetrapala riding the bear at centre, and Trakshe on the right, with blue Takiraja and Shri Devi to the left and right of Mahakala, Vajrayogini above left, Kechari above right, with Chakrasamvara and Hayagriva upper left and right, and mahasiddhas Shavaripa on the left and Damarupa on the right flanking Vajradhara and a Tibetan master
Amy Heller identifies the Tibetan spiritual teacher depicted with Vajradhara above as Khyungpo Neljor, founder of the Shangpa Kagyu order, in Nathalie Bazin, ed., Rituels tibétains: Visions secrètes du Ve Dalai Lama, Paris, 2002, p. 110.
