T.P. Barnard;

sale, Geneva, Sotheby's, 12 November 1980, lot 152

The sitter married Louis, Dauphin of France in 1747, who predeseased her. She was mother of three kings: Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X.

The present portrait is derived from a lost pastel by Maurice-Quentin Le Tour1. There is another version of this miniature, mounted on a latter box, within the Wallace Collection (inv. G&). We are grateful to Neil Jeffares for his help in cataloguing this lot.
