Joanne Woodward's wedding dress. Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman—one of Hollywood's most iconic couples—first met in 1953 in their agent's office, as each was an understudy for the play Picnic, and fell in love on the set of The Long, Hot Summer (1958). They married in Los Vegas on 29 January 1958, and Woodward wore the present dress. Non-traditional in some respects, the silhouette is classic.
Woodward and Newman were married for 50 years, until Newman's death in 2008. When Paul Newman was asked in an interview with Playboy magazine how he remained faithful to Woodward, Newman now-famously responded: "I have steak at home; why go out for hamburger?"
