An Egyptian Buffware Pottery Jar

Predynastic Period, Nagada II, circa 3600-3200 B.C.


of broad rounded form with twin cylindrical handles and everted rim, the body painted in red with a frieze of flamingos standing on a band of chevrons, and a frieze of gazelles atop a range of hills, latticed rectangles on the shoulder, concentric circles underneath.

Diameter 24 cm.

Please note the correct provenance for this lot should read lot number 158, not 58, in the Bonhams London October 2nd 2014 sale.
