In the year 1962 Heuer launched the Autavia. It was the company's first chronograph to incorporate a rotating bezel, which is a useful tool for race car drivers to measure elapsed time. But it was also the first wristwatch that Jack Heuer, the great grandson of company founder Edouard Heuer, personally created for the company, at age 30.
The present watch is an extremely sought-after 'first execution' model. These early Autavias had the characteristic dial with oversized registers that was only used during the first 1-2 years of production. The look is completed by the steel dauphine hands.
Sotheby's is honored to offer the collection of a former race car driver (in total 28 watches) with proceeds benefiting an initiative to support children of refugees in Germany.
