A pair of conch-shaped gold cord clasps
Java, Indonesia, 7th - 12th century
1.6 cm; 8.57 grams
These gold clasps were likely meant to be displayed on cords around the waist or neck. Two similar examples are illustrated in John Miksic, Old Javanese Gold, New Haven, 2011, pl.103; another is published in Anne Richter, The Jewelry of Southeast Asia, London, 2010, pl. 164. Formed in the shaped of a conch (sangka), they are emblematic of the Hindu god Vishnu.
Anne Richter,《The Jewelry of Southeast Asia》,倫敦,2010年,圖版164號。
