款識︰

玉豪香爇,光染菩提,縑素雲裁,丹敷蓮萼。伏以丹青寵佑,敬艁南無觀世音菩薩一區。憑斯勝因,奉資靈助,微塵幾點,滄海三生,煩障恒消,沉淪弘濟。迺至薰香無𣀇,傳鐙何窮,一切迷方,俱迴覺路。戊子年二月十九日,西蜀清信弟子張大千爰。 


鈐印︰「張爰」、「大千居士」、「除壹切苦」。

Inscription:

The Buddhist incense is burning. The light is shining on the Bodhisattva. The dress is made of silk of clouds. The lotus throne is coloured with vermilion. In glorification, I produced this painting of the Guanyin Bodhisattva. By means of this good intention and offering to the divine, for tiny specks of dust to the immense ocean of three lives, fret and worries would be cleared and the degenerated helped. With unceasing incense and light, all those lost will be enlightened and brought back to the awakened path. Nineteenth day of the second lunar month of the wuzi year, disciple Chang Dai-chien Yuan from Xishu (Western Sichuan).

註︰本幅寫於一九四八年春,乃大千寓居成都昭覺寺時,落款日期「二月十九日」,即觀音誕辰,可知乃藉節日造象,祈濟度眾生。畫中觀音呈女相,披白袍,戴寶冠,背具圓光,斜倚石半跏趺坐,手托下頷,旁置淨瓶插枝,屬其早年筆下水月觀音造型之一。與其一九三七年作同稿〈水月觀音〉相比,人物造型更添敦煌壁畫特徵,衣紋線條流暢,有曹衣出水之致,帔帛、環釧、頭冠等敷礦物顏料,開面作「三白臉」,氣息高古。畫面省略水中月影之細節,聚焦白衣大士,在靛藍背景襯托下,益顯清淨無垢,此亦畫家以含蓄手法突顯觀世音菩薩之慈悲祥和矣!
