Etching and drypoint, 1654, a very fine, black impression of New Hollstein’s first state (of four), very richly inked and cleanly wiped, the shadows particularly opaque, partially obscuring the details in places and heightening the drama through chiaroscuro, printing with much burr, on fine laid paper without watermark, framed
sheet: 210 by 161mm 8¼ by 6¼ in
The present impression compares favourably with the Cracherode impression (F,5.6) in the British Museum.
