8vo. Half-title; one or two stray spots. Publisher's green-stamped tan linen cloth in printed green dustjacket, top edge green; a few short closed tears to jacket edges with minimal chipping to spine ends, minor browning to front free-endpaper. A very clean example.

First edition in English, inscribed by the author "Mr. Walter F.C. Smith, with the Author's Compliments and Thanks! Erich Maria Remarque". Copies inscribed by the author are very uncommon.

Translated from the German by A.W. Wheen. The English edition of this classic twentieth-century war novel preceded the American edition.
