Between 1893 and 1895, Gutzon Borglum traveled to England and took up residence in London until his return to the United States in 1902. It was during this period that Borglum had the occasion to meet the aging John Ruskin and described him as "the most marvelous, magnificent, unappreciated genius the world has ever known."
