A KATANA, EDO PERIOD, CIRCA 1781–1868
Sugata [configuration]: Shinogi-zukuri, shallow tori-zori, iori-mune and chu-kissaki
Kitae [forging pattern]: Very tight masame-hada, almost muji-hada throughout
Hamon [tempering pattern]: Sanbon-tsuji in ko-rie and nioi, yakidashi at the base
Boshi [tip]: O-maru with kaeri
Nakago [tang]: Ubu with slight ha-agari kuri-jiri, one mekogi-ana, mumei
Habaki [collar]: Silver on copper
Koshirae [mount]: A black lacquered saya with narrow diagonal ribs and plain black kojiri, kurikata and koi-guchi, the tsuka with green ito over white same, the shakudo-nanako fuchi-kashira show gold water dragons, as do the menuki, the iron tsuka is round with fan-shaped and gold leaf design around the rim
